Personality
What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (100-300 words) Chilchuck is known for stating time and again that the most common cause of parties breaking up is interpersonal conflict. This is a fact he knows from experience... because it was the cause of the fraught state of his marriage, and is subsequently the reason why he remains so secretive even after working with the Touden party for a significant amount of time. He is notorious for his emotional distance and his difficulty with communicating, and this is displayed with his standoffish, outspoken, and sarcastic manner. The rough manner and blunt word choices are a cover for his own fears-- of being hurt, of hurting others, of being used for all that he is worth, however meager that may seem in terms of the larger picture. However, he is so tied up in his sheer levels of anxiety of being observed and exposed that he doesn't realize that his own intense levels of secrecy can actually create danger for himself and others.
On a practical level, this is also shown on a physical level. As a specialist in disarming traps, one wrong move and one sign of weakness on his part can mean the death of himself and his entire party. In his mind, he cannot allow himself to be vulnerable for the sake and safety of everyone he is working with.... and, as a Union Man on a Job, his ability to play his role and play it
well is more important than taking care of his own wants and needs.
What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (100-300 words)Chilchuck has what seems to be a simple desire on the surface: an interesting life where he can be useful-- within reason-- to others. This means doing his best to make the world
safer for those around him, as much as he is able to with his skill in lock picking and disarming traps, as well as his shrewd skills as a negotiator to create fairer work conditions for other Half Foots who traverse in the Dungeon. While this has negatively impacted his reputation in a number of ways, both with his crass and outspoken attitude whenever he encounters a situation that is levels of absurd that he doesn't know how to deal with, and with how his fellow Half Foots characterize him as greedy and money-hungry. It's practical-- and he wants fair compensation for what is otherwise dangerous and life-threatening work.
He doesn't seem to use the fees for his own benefit. It goes into the coffers of his Guild for use by the Guild.
Unfortunately, his lifestyle of being physically distant and his habit of being emotionally distant has enforced a distance within his own family. He is estranged from his wife to the point of no contact, and he simply finds it easier to explain to others that he is divorced. The reality is that he is not as good of a man as he tries to be, and he is forever trying to be as good as he can to others.
How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words) Without the memories of his various misadventures in the Dungeon, which include losing his life multiple times and the emotional coldness that caused his wife to walk out on him, Chilchuck is more likely to be more... Chill. He won't have the same sort of baggage, and will be more willing to just trust people from the outset, perhaps even to the point of allowing himself to be vulnerable and less secretive around them.
In addition, he will be more willing to help without his requisite
fees paid upfront for a job. It won't even truly be considered a 'job' unless people start treating him as expendable-- his inherent selfishness and desire to live remains, but that doesn't mean that he's unwilling to put himself on the line of that's what the duty calls for.
However, without the influence of his trials he faced with his personal life as well as alongside the various parties that he had worked with over the last several years, he's not going to entirely know what he is capable of-- both in terms of the steel in his heart and what he is able to physically and emotionally endure. He's a little guy-- one with worldly experience, but perhaps more akin to the softer halflings that we see in popular media (Sam and Frodo from LotR, Orym from CritRole.)
